Just Past the Gingerbread

Lyrics

I signaled you from the corner by the massive wreath

Trying to speak, but running out of breath underneath

Cousin Mike is blocking the hallway with a bad tie

If we don't move now, this whole night will pass us by

The kitchen door is where the chaos is peaking high

But the only clear route is where the sugar cookies lie

I saw your reflection in the ornament ball

This is the moment, baby, we risk it all

I’m dodging small talk, skipping the cheese plate line

You gave me the eye that says, "Yeah, this moment is mine!"

The stakes are high, the mission is nearly complete

Just one narrow window to escape the Christmas beat (Hurry up!)

We’re going Just Past the Gingerbread, into the clear

Leaving all the noise and the holiday fear right here

We’ll find a dark corner where the lamp is dim and low

Let the music fade out and let the feeling grow

Just Past the Gingerbread, that’s where we make the trade

For the perfect quiet moment we strategically made (Strategically made!)

I think Aunt Carol just pointed right where I stood

Pretended I was looking for something in the pile of wood

I took the long way, weaving past the family drone

Hoping to find you standing absolutely alone

You were waiting by the hallway, next to the ugly vase

A quick, sly smile lights up your beautiful face

We slipped outside where the air is cold and crisp

Finally time for the one thing that we truly wished

I’m dodging small talk, skipping the cheese plate line

You gave me the eye that says, "Yeah, this moment is mine!"

The stakes are high, the mission is nearly complete

Just one narrow window to escape the Christmas beat (Hurry up!)

We’re going Just Past the Gingerbread, into the clear

Leaving all the noise and the holiday fear right here

We’ll find a dark corner where the lamp is dim and low

Let the music fade out and let the feeling grow

Just Past the Gingerbread, that’s where we make the trade

Oh, for the perfect quiet moment we strategically made

Oh, for the perfect quiet moment we strategically made

Just past the gingerbread

Oh, gingerbread

Oh, gingerbread

Where are we going?

Where are we going?

Gingerbread

Gingerbread

Gingerbread
